Millfield: Choose Your Own Adventure - Year 6 Multimedia

Island Project

Created: May 2009

Year: 6 Level: 4

Teacher Comments:
Children studied Kensuke's Island as a transition English project and created their own hyperlinked 'choose your own adventure' style games. They then worked with a visiting 'digital teacher' to create a class story for an internet audience. Children moved from linear to non-linear narrative with ease, and many embellished and added to their stories at home, transferring work on disk between home and school. Many children also wanted copies of their stories to take home and keep.

This pupil chose appropriate sounds and a variety of images and backgrounds to enhance her text. Her links are accurate and error free. She has refined her text and added in several possible endings. To move her work on, Emily could look at the style of the images and ensure that they match the style of her story. She could be encouraged to choose backgrounds and images which harmonise with the content of her story and with each other, and to offer options to find out more as well as progress through the story. She was assessed at the top of Level 4.
