Pocket Money

Created: Nov 2009

Subjects: ICT across all areas of learning, Understanding mathematics,

Year: 6 Level: 4

Teacher Comments:
This piece of work was completed as part of an ICT unit on data handling. The children were asked to present a spreadsheet showing the amount of money saved over a period of 12 weeks. They started with a blank spreadsheet and used basic addition and multiplication formulae in order to calculate money available at any given time. Once children had completed this activity they created a line graph and modified the appearance to present the information more clearly, showing an awareness of the audience and the need for quality.

Student Comments:
I really enjoyed working on this and it made me want to use a spreadsheet at home to work out how long it would take me to buy a new computer game.
